Divorces are pretty common phenomena in Hollywood, but these stars have avoided the hassle of divorce by ditching the idea of marriage altogether. You can’t get divorced if you don’t get married, right? All of the celebrities on this list have been perpetually single— or at least unmarried— for their entire lives.

Mary-Louise Parker

Mary-Louise Parker has a son, who was born in 2004, named William Atticus Parker. Her son’s father is her longterm partner and now ex, Billy Cudrup. In 2007, she adopted a daughter, Caroline Aberash Parker, from Ethiopia on her own.

In 2006, Parker dated her Weeds co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan. They were together for several years, and they even got engaged, but they never got married.

Owen Wilson

Actor Owen Wilson has dated several A-list celebrities, including Sheryl Crow and Kate Hudson. Owen was even engaged to Kate Hudson in 2008, but the two of them didn’t end up getting married.

Wilson had a son with his ex-girlfriend Jade Duell in 2011, and he had another son in 2014 with his personal trainer. On October 9, 2018, Wilson’s ex-girlfriend, Varunie Vongsvirates, gave birth to a daughter. That’s a lot of kids for a man who never got married.

Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais has been dating his girlfriend, Jane Fallon for over 30 years. When asked why they haven’t gotten married, Gervais responded, “There’s no point in us having an actual ceremony before the eyes of God because there is no God.”

Well, that’s one way of looking at the world. Ricky and Jane also don’t have any children because they “didn’t fancy dedicating 16 years of our lives. And there are too many children, of course.”

Edie Falco

Edie Falco has never married, and she doesn’t speak publicly about her relationships. She has two adopted children, Anderson and Macy. Back in the day, Edie Falco struggled with alcoholism, a disease that affected many of her romantic relationships.

After joining Alcoholic’s Anonymous, Edie got her life together, became sober, and decided that she wanted to be a mother. She also decided that she wasn’t going to wait for a man to make her a mother.

Allison Janney

Allison Janney has never been married, and she told E! the magazine that “I want to be a player! I’m still single! I want to feel sexy and young and pretty for as long as I can.”

Janney is notoriously private about her dating life, but she was recently seen walking several red carpets with her beau, Philip Joncas. Joncas, who is in his late 30s, and Janney, who is in her late 50s, were first seen together at the 2015 Emmy Awards.

Drew Carey

Drew Carey has never been married. He was engaged to his longtime girlfriend Nicole Jaracz, but the couple split up in 2012. While they were together, Carey was a father figure to Nicole Jaracz’s son, Connor, from a previous relationship.

Seth MacFarlane

The guy behind Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane has never been married, but in 2012, he briefly dated Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke. He also dated Alexandra Breckenridge, Ashley Greene, Amanda Bynes, and Tamera Mowry in the past.

Seth told The Daily Princetonian, “I have some Brian type issues from time to time—looking for the right person—but I date as much as the next guy.” We already knew that Seth identifies with Brian more than any other Family Guy character.

Al Pacino

Al Pacino may have three children, but the Godfather actor has never been married. Pacino has one child with his acting coach Jan Tarrant and two with Vacation actress Beverly D’Angelo. He has also dated Diane Keaton, Tuesday Weld, Jill Clayburgh, Marthe Keller, Kathleen Quinlan, and Lyndall Hobbs.

It looks like Al Pacino is meant to be an eternal bachelor. Even though he never got married, he still became a father (not just a godfather).

Bill Maher

Comedian Bill Maher has never been married, but he has been in some serious long-term relationships. Maher has dated Playboy Cyber Girl Coco Johnsen, author Karrine Steffans, and neuroscientist Cara Santa Maria.

Maher shared his ideas about marriage on his personal website, stating, “I’m the last of my guy friends to have never gotten married, and their wives—they don’t want them playing with me. I’m like the escaped slave—I bring news of freedom.”

Adrien Brody

Adrien Brody has never tied the knot, but he has dated A-listers like Tori Amos, Keira Knightley, and January Jones.

He dated Michelle Dupont, a music industry personal assistant, from 2003 to 2006. She was also his date to the 2003 Oscars. He began dating Spanish actress Elsa Pataky in 2006, and the couple lived together in a gorgeous home until 2009 when they went their separate ways. Brody is still in his 40s, so he still has time to get married if he wants to.

Sheryl Crow

Musician Sheryl Crow has never been married, but she has been in relationships with some of the biggest names in film, music, and sports. Crow has been notably involved with actor Owen Wilson, musician Eric Clapton, and cyclist Lance Armstrong.

Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong were actually engaged at one point, but they broke up before they could make their relationship official.

Winona Ryder

Winona Ryder has never been married, but she was engaged to Johnny Depp in 1990. Ryder also dated Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner as well as actor Matt Damon. Even though Winona’s been through quite a few rocky relationships, she’s been with her current partner, Scott Mackinlay Hahn since 2011.

I know a lot of you still ship Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp, but that is so over. Plus you only really ship her with a young Johnny Depp, not a present-day Johnny Depp.

John Cusack

John Cusack has managed to date several famous actresses while keeping his high profile relationships out of the public eye. Cusack has been involved with Neve Campbell, Minnie Driver, and his Say Anything co-star Lili Taylor.

Even though he starred in a lot of ’80s romantic comedies, Cusack is well-known for being a bachelor. I guess he’s just not as romantic off-screen as he is on-screen. When asked in 2009 why he had never married he answered, “society doesn’t tell me what to do.”

Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton is sure that she likes men, and she thinks she would like to get married if she could only find somebody who wanted to marry her. At least, that’s what she told Ellen DeGeneres. Keaton has dated several famous and talented men, but she never tied the knot.

She has been involved with Woody Allen, Warren Beatty, and Al Pacino. Keaton has two adopted children, Dexter and Duke.

Shemar Moore

Best known for his role as Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds and Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson on S.W.A.T, it might come as a surprise that heartthrob Shemar Moore has never tied the knot.

While sources say he dated American soccer player Shawna Gordon from 2014 to 2015 and then actress Anabelle Acosta in 2018, Moore is pretty good at keeping his private life under the radar.

Kylie Minogue

Australian dance-pop superstar Kylie Minogue has never been married. In the late ’80s, she dated INXSfrontmann Michael Hutchence, and she also dated actor Olivier Martinez from 2002-2007.

Minogue was in a relationship with model Andrés Velencoso from 2008 to 2013. In November 2015, Minogue confirmed she was dating British actor Joshua Sasse. In February 2016, The Daily Telegraph announced that the couple was engaged, but the pair ended their relationship the following year before they could walk down the aisle.

Marisa Tomei

Though Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei has been in relationships with several famous leading men, she never got married. Her rumored exes include Robert Downey Jr., Christian Slater, and Lenny Kravitz, and she was rumored to be engaged to Logan Marshall-Green, although her representative later denied this.

In 2009, Tomei said, “I’m not that big a fan of marriage as an institution, and I don’t know why women need to have children to be seen as complete human beings.”

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey has never been married, although she has been dating her partner, Stedman Graham for over 25 years. Winfrey also dated film critic Roger Ebert in the mid-80s.

Winfrey and Graham were engaged to be married in November 1992, but the ceremony never took place. I guess they decided that they didn’t need to throw a big wedding to fully commit themselves to each other. Marriage isn’t for everybody.

Garry Shandling

Comedian Garry Shandling died suddenly in 2016. He died without ever marrying. Shandling rarely discussed his personal life with the media.

He shared an apartment with his fiancée, Playboy model Linda Doucett from 1987 until 1994. On The Larry Sanders Show, Doucett played Darlene, Hank Kingsley’s doting assistant. Shandling also dated Sharon Stone and he’s rumored to have dated Calista Flockhart. Garry had a full and wonderful life even though he didn’t marry or have kids.

Wilt Chamberlain

Wilt Chamberlain was too much of a player to settle down with one woman. He never got married or had children, but he did claim that he had been intimate with over 20,000 women in his lifetime.

One of Wilt’s lovers said, “I think Wilt hit on everything that moved…[but] he never was bad or rude.” Many of Chamberlain’s personal friends testified that he once had 23 women in 10 days.

Dana Delany

Dana Delany is in her 60s and she’s never been married. In a 2006 interview, Delany stated, “I turned 50 and I’m ready to get married… I don’t know who he is yet but I’m ready… He has to be smart, funny and kind.”

She added a year later: “Marriage has never been a big deal for me… But I think I’m ready now… I got to have all the fun in the world, to experience a lot of people and figure out what I really like.”

Condoleezza Rice

Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has never been married. Rice was engaged to NFL player Rick Upchurch in the ’70s, but the relationship didn’t work out.

According to biographer Marcus Mabry, she left Upchurch because she “knew the relationship wasn’t going to work.” Being a political figure in the public eye can make it really difficult to find a suitable match, especially for a woman. Condoleezza is now in her mid-60s, and it doesn’t look like she’s getting married any time soon.

Coco Chanel

Designer Coco Chanel never married. She also did not have any children. Chanel was the mistress of some of the most influential men of her time. She had significant relationships with the poet Pierre Reverdy and the illustrator and designer Paul Iribe. After her romance with Reverdy ended in 1926, they stayed friends for over forty years.

She was involved with Iribe until his sudden death in 1935. Chanel was something of a rebel, even in her day.
