10 Movies That Are Too Close to Real Life

Movies are mostly about entertainment, but sometimes, they get a little too close to the truth, like how humans interact with each other. Figuring out 10 movies that are too close to real life isn’t tough, but it can be a little unnerving sometimes, especially when a movie shows the worst of humanity.
Don’t Look Up

Of all the movies that have used Leonardo DiCaprio, this is one of the silliest. But it does make a good point concerning the apathetic manner in which people live these days. When so many people are trying to talk about the end of the world, even a meteor the size of Mt. Everest quickly becomes old news.
The Purge

What’s really disturbing about this movie is that it could be applied to real life if the wrong people were in charge. Who are the wrong people? That’s a good question, but one that applies to a disturbingly low number of individuals.
V for Vendetta

There’s a certain sense of poetic justice to this movie that many would probably claim is justified. It does show the iniquities of the wicked, not just the rich. But thinking that the ire of the people could be sparked in such a manner is hard to deny.
Children of Men

This movie carries on the tradition of “What would people do if…?” in an interesting way. That is if you can make it through the slow pace that grinds out the action in a very gritty manner. It makes a good point, though; humans overreact to just about anything they’re told is important.
Idiocracy

Yes, this is a satirical look at what might happen if the dumbest people win the top spot in society. Yet, some would argue that this has already happened, which is why our world is the way it is. It’s not entirely off the mark.
1984

So many people cry out about fascism that it does feel as though it’s lost all meaning. Watching this movie makes it a little easier to understand what the word means and what loss of freedom is all about. Maybe this should be required watching in schools these days.
Larry Crowne

With mild comedy and emotion, this movie brings home the idea of what it’s like for a middle-aged man to start over. When Larry loses his job and has to find a way to start over on a shoestring budget, things get a little interesting, not to mention funny. But it does answer the question of what happens when life pulls the rug out from under you.
Reign of Fire

It’s understood that dragons do not exist and that the apocalypse they might bring about is best left on-screen. But simultaneously, humans’ reactions are too real since survival is a gritty existence that can divide rather than unite many people. Plus, some seek to hunker down, and some continue to move forward.
Flatliners

The natural curiosity that people have about death is on full display in this movie since it’s a veil that many have not penetrated yet. But whether or not a near-death experience brings back our inner demons is questionable. Still, it does raise a lot of questions.
Untraceable

It’s tough to think that someone like the killer in this movie could exist, but it’s humanity we’re talking about, so it’s not impossible. However, there are a few plot holes that make it easy to say that this is close to reality but not close enough to be realistic. The ability of people to cheer on the destruction of others? That’s a little too real.
